Title:
Super Tank Player: You are player number 3113 Description: It’s always fun to gun and shoot your way through an army of enemies as you control a lone hero with that “against all odds” theme floating above your head. And since I enjoy playing games like that a lot, Casualicious dot Com now reviews the SUPER TANK game, a platformer-shooter game coming from the collaborative work of Snubby (programming) and Ansel Lies (art and animation), with great thanks to Marcus Tyr for the music. The game story starts when you take control of Supertank, the last soldier of the green star-branded army that is set to do battle with the army of the Red Skulls. While all hope may rest on Supertank’s shoulders, all that he can do is to take teeny weenie jumps at first. But still, he is designed to evolve, and after every stage, he does just that as he is fitted with more jump boosts and firepower to help him break through the Red Skulls’ defenses.
Given that, the objective of the game is very simple. Make your way to the bosses of each of the 5 stages as you take care of pesky little Red Skull underlings along your path. A victory on each of these stages will give you a nice little upgrade with the best parts delivered to you on later stages as you get to play with some firepower. Arrow keys to move and “A” and “S” keys to spew bullets and missiles respectively. One thing to remember though (and was not mentioned in the game), is that you can continuously fire bullets and missiles by keeping the “A” and “S” buttons pressed. I just discovered this after getting tired of button mashing, and it definitely helped me during the boss battles.
The Review
As I said before, the SUPER TANK game is just your average platformer-shooter sidescrolling flash game. It plays just like Mega Man and I’m guessing that this game is definitely influenced very much by the famous Blue Bomber (except that you are now playing with a Green Bomber-like tank). Nevertheless, the game still holds itself to be very interesting and addictive, and you’ll definitely love the increasing challenge it presents after every stage.
I definitely loved the art and the brown-textured background really gave me the feeling of war. The gameplay is very smooth and I encountered no bugs whatsoever during my course of play. The little animated sequences of Red Skull people running around adds to the game’s overall fun factor and it kinda reminds me of Metal Slug all over again. Coupled with such fine music, this game simply rocks.
One complaint though is SUPER TANK’s lack of more levels to play. I guess that this lack of levels was the result of 5 months of painstaking work to achieve such great quality. So given the choice between more levels and game quality, I definitely choose the latter
